The Kansas Contractors Association is a professional association of contractors and those who provide supplies and services to the heavy, highway and utility construction industry. Working together, our members promote a better industry by advancing their level of skill, integrity and responsibility while improving the quality of life in our communities.
The Kansas Contractors Association has developed a proactive legislative program with specific goals and action plans to protect and promote the heavy, highway and utility construction industry.
Two registered lobbyists on staff monitor hundreds of pieces of legislation during each session, and staff attends interim committee meetings and makes legislator visitations during the break between sessions.
KCA lobbyists are your eyes and ears at the Statehouse, and they also represent the industry on matters before local units of government, and state agencies regulating the industry. The association was at the forefront of the passage of the 1989, 1999 and 2010 Kansas Transportation Programs. Other recent legislative success stories, which involved the association, include: the passage of a measure requiring a public hearing before city and county governments can enter the paving business; the passage of water stream regulation requiring higher standards for clean water; the passage of the Bid Omission law; doubling the fines in construction work zones; and consistent efforts to retain the funds in all infrastructure programs.
The KCA Legislative Committee calls upon constituent members to offer testimony before legislative committees, to give the construction company perspective on how a bill would affect its operation.
Each year the association holds a Legislative Luncheon during the session for legislators and staff, an informal meeting for members to invite and mix with their representatives and senators.
